Personal Mission Statement

To represent Christ in my life as a husband, father, friend and pastor. Specifically, as a pastor I desire...

  • ...to minister in a way which reflects the gospel of Christ.
  • ...to share the gospel through preaching, teaching and pastoral care.
  • ...to openly invite God's hand to be active in my life, in my congregation's life and in the lives of those around me.

Biographical Information

I spent most of my growing years in Midland, Michigan (parents: Eugene and Barbara E. Slagel). My education was fostered from 2nd through 7th grades at the Midland Christian School. After high school, I joined the ministry of Christian Adventures full time as a tour director leading trips in Vermont, Nova Scotia, New Hampshire, Wyoming, Michigan, Florida and Pennsylvania. I attended Delta College, Kalamazoo Valley Community College, and received a Bachelors of Arts degree (Bible, Religion and Philosophy) from Goshen College and my Masters (Theology) from Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary.

I have served as a pastor in two congregations before coming to EGMC: as Minister to Youth with Shore Mennonite Church (Shipshewana, IN) from 1988-1991, and as Associate Minister and Interim Minister with Silverwood Mennonite Church (Goshen, IN) from 1991-1998.
